Sustainable business

Transformational change

unioleo-logo-990x557On any given day, two billion people use Unilever products to look good, feel good and get more out of life. Many of these products contain palm oil and its derivatives.

UOI has an important role to play in enabling the traceability of sustainable palm oil to support the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan. As a founding member of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), Unilever has a role in accelerating the transformation of the industry in implementing sustainable business practices.

Through the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan we have committed to halving our environmental impact, improving the health and well-being of more than a billion people, and enhancing the livelihoods of millions working in our value chain. We are working with other organisations through partnerships that have the potential to change things on a global scale – with a focus on helping to end deforestation, helping smallholder farmers improve their yields and livelihoods, and helping millions of people benefit from improved water, sanitation and hygiene.

We are developing new ways of doing business where sustainability drives everything we do across Unilever and UOI.

  • All raw materials come from sustainable sources

  • People’s health and well-being are a priority

  • Workplace rights and opportunities are improved and women get a fair deal

  • The environment is safeguarded for future generations

“In 2010, we set ourselves the target of sourcing 100% of the palm we use sustainably by 2015. We reached this target three years early and then set ourselves a more stretching target – to purchase all palm oil sustainably from certified, traceable sources by 2020. The investment in this new plant will be another step towards achieving this more stretching target.”- Pier-Luigi Sigismondi, Executive Vice President, Asia
